My dream since
my childhood

Rob has always been a dreamer. As a 6-year-old boy, his biggest dream was to travel the world in a self-made plane. So he hammered together some planks, screwed the handle of an old coffee grinder to what looked like a propeller, and thought, "If I just turn it hard enough, I'll go up in the air." That kind of dreams.

Always Had Dream Jobs

After HBS-A and his military service, Rob decided to go on holiday for six months. Traveling attracted him enormously anyway, because he had grown up in the middle of the world port of Rotterdam. And so he started a working holiday across almost all of Europe. He earned money with all kinds of simple jobs:  strawberry picker, tennis court sprinkler, dishwasher and the most exciting: waiter on a luxury yacht in Monaco.

Traveling had such an effect on him that he opted for a job in the travel industry upon his return. At tour operator Hotelplan, he contributed, among other things, to putting together World Air Travel.

In the early 1970s, Rob entered the aviation industry as a marketer. And worked successively at VARIG Brazilian Airlines, Japan Airlines and British Airways. Years in which he was able to see just about every corner of the world.

Until another dream job lured him. At the advertising agency of KLM, among others. Right up his alley. First on the business side and after a few years as a creative, as a copywriter. But at the age of 50, a voice from his childhood suddenly called out to him: "Why don't you create something with your hands?" Fine, but then what?

So he locked himself up in the hills of South Limburg for a weekend. And wrote his whole life and pen empty in a fresh Moleskine. About the fun and less fun things, about people and movements that fascinated him and about his skills and limitations. And so suddenly there was - at the top of a new page: "I am made of wood".

A few pages later, followed by: "I'm going to build treehouses". No one in the Netherlands has done that before. Well in America, where he was apprenticed to Pete Nelson, the GOAT among Treehousebuilders! And the rest is history.

Contact

If Rob doesn't respond to an email or phone call right away, he is most likely  building. But he always responds within 24 hours.
